Sustainable steel: the 2010 sustainability review

worldsteel's sustainability indicators measure the industry's progress in fulfilling the commitments of the sustainable development policy. Following on from the 2008 Sustainability Report, the 2010 update is a special section of this website, entitled Sustainable steel. It reports on 2006, 2007 and 2008 performance against the indicators. It also includes company case studies on economic, social and environmental sustainability.

The 200th anniversary of the steel can

The invention of the food can dates back to 1810, when the first canned goods were produced to feed armies during the Napoleonic wars.

Today, canning is one of the most sustainable food packaging solutions available. The steel can is the world's most recycled container.
