ThyssenKrupp: InCar® solution kit for car producers

Challenge

Automotive innovations are created in the field of interaction between weight reduction, cost efficiency and functionality. Competition to find the best technical solutions takes place against the backdrop of an ever-intensifying climate debate, rising demand for comfort from end customers and increasingly strict national and international legislation.

This competition is also subject to growing cost pressures. With development cycles shortening dramatically, today it is not only functional and economic aspects that decide the success of new concepts but above all the speed with which these concepts can be introduced into production.

Action

With InCar® ThyssenKrupp is facing the challenge of providing its partners in the automotive industry with a broad spectrum of innovative technologies.

These body, chassis and powertrain solutions can be adapted to different customer goals in terms of weight reduction, cost, functionality, emissions reduction and safety. Rapid integration into production is possible.

The project’s development priorities were defined in cooperation with ThyssenKrupp’s automotive partners.

Outcome

InCar® offers more than 30 innovative body, chassis and powertrain solutions. The focus is on sustainable improvements in weight, cost, function or emissions. Life cycle analysis of all components helped the R&D process and proved the advantages.

Development work resulted in a solution kit from which car producers can choose what matches their own development needs. Whether the objective is weight reduction, cost efficiency or functionality - at least one of these aspects is fulfilled with the InCar® innovation and clearly demonstrates an improvement over previous state-of-the-art solutions.

Combining the most eco-friendly developments of the InCar® project could reduce CO2 emissions per kilometre by 17.63 grams. Over the full life cycle there is a reduction of around 5,500 kg per vehicle.
