steeluniversity, the education and training programme of the World Steel Association (worldsteel), is pleased to announce the opening of registrations for the 21st edition of steelChallenge.
The steelChallenge-21 Regional Championship will take place on 17 November 2026, starting at 12:00 UTC.
Participants will be challenged to produce a specified grade of steel using steeluniversity’s steelmaking simulators, meeting the required technical and carbon footprint requirements at the lowest possible cost per tonne.
Competitors will have 24 hours to complete successful runs and compete for the title of Regional Champion in one of five regions: Americas; Europe & Africa; Asia – West; Asia – North; and Asia – East & Oceania.
This year, steelChallenge features three participation categories: Industry, University Student and High School Student.
The High School Student category is open to participants worldwide for the first time, following a successful pilot during steelChallenge-20. The new category gives younger students the opportunity to explore steelmaking through simulation and discover how technology, sustainability and decision-making come together in the steel industry.
Participants who register for steelChallenge receive access to steeluniversity’s Learning Solutions Directory, where they can take e-learning courses, attend live masterclasses, interact with 3D models and practise using the steelmaking simulators. Dedicated training workshops are also available to top-level sponsors.
