World crude steel production for the 71 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 135.7 million tonnes (Mt) in December 2023, a 5.3% decrease compared to December 2022.
Crude steel production by region
Africa produced 1.9 Mt in December 2023, up 17.7% on December 2022. Asia and Oceania produced 96.4 Mt, down 9.7%. The EU (27) produced 9.1 Mt, up 2.7%. Europe, Other produced 3.9 Mt, up 19.4%. The Middle East produced 4.9 Mt, up 9.6%. North America produced 9.3 Mt, up 5.3%. Russia & other CIS + Ukraine produced 7.1 Mt, up 11.8%. South America produced 3.2 Mt, down 3.2%.

China produced 67.4 Mt in December 2023, down 14.9% on December 2022. India produced 12.1 Mt, up 9.5%. Japan produced 7.0 Mt, up 1.1%. The United States produced 6.8 Mt, up 7.6%. Russia is estimated to have produced 6.0 Mt, up 4.3%. South Korea produced 5.4 Mt, up 2.7%. Germany produced 2.6 Mt, down 2.3%. Türkiye produced 3.2 Mt, up 21.2%. Brazil produced 2.5 Mt, up 0.9%. Iran produced 2.9 Mt, up 12.1%.
