15 June 2022
In order to comply with the latest round of EU sanctions against Russia coming into force on Thursday 16th June, our Russian members have agreed to voluntarily withdraw from our activities while the sanctions remain in place.
This means that Russians will not be able to access the worldsteel extranet, benchmarking systems, and other platforms.
In addition to this they will not receive email notifications from our side and will not be invited to participate in either online or in person meetings.
We stress that worldsteel is constitutionally politically neutral and that this action is taken because of our need to comply with EU law.
We have not expelled or suspended our Russian members, rather we have come to a mutually satisfactory arrangement with them in which they are voluntarily and temporarily becoming ‘passive members.’
All access to our platforms will be reinstated when EU law allows for this.
